Mind over matter

I woke up an hour before I needed to this morning, which is odd considering it's just turned (San Diego) chilly and no one gets out of their warm bed that easily these days in our house. Maybe it was the dog's snoring that kept me from another hour of slumber, maybe it was the mental checklist running through my head of gifts still needing to be bought, how I was going to decorate the tree we'll get in a few weeks or the thanksgiving menu & grocery list....
Last week I read in Isaiah something that was satisfyingly thirst quenching. I've been mulling it over ever since.

"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the rock eternal." Isaiah 26:3-4

Whose mind is steadfast...trusting in Him.
A perfect peace.
Trust in the Lord forever.
Not just in the good times.
Not just when you are scared.
Forever.

I've been window shopping online for the right Christmas card for this year. None seem quite right. Too few words to express what we truly are feeling this year. Peace, Yes. Joy, Yes. But can I also add thankful...you know, from the thanksgiving card section?

But now, I'm thinking I'd also like to add "keeping our mind steadfast on Him". It's the only way to have those genuine, steadfast feelings of peace and joy and thankfulness. "Steadfast feelings" is otherwise practically an oxymoron with out the Lord in it.

Perhaps I will have our card created this year:).

  1. Thank you for sharing the verse....very moving. I agree, the holiday cards don't seem to reflect quite what we need them to...maybe we should start a line of cards :). Happy you are back from Maui and hope to see you soon!
